Wheels look thoroughly Renault 5 Alpine, as do the lower suspension arms. I suppose Renault 5-based?
But I imagine
le cinq
was not exactly common in NZ... or was it?

I can’t say french cars are too common over here to be honest, especially that old, but then they could have all been turned into toasters by now.
Seems you are right about it being based on a first generation Renault 5, though this ones only rocking an 1100cc motor.

For more French-based three-wheelers...
Blackjack Avion, this one’s 2CV-based.

Wheels are Gordini, the rest of it’s just regular 5. No, they didn’t come to NZ: this was built in the U.K. then brought over.
